What are you looking for?

I’m glad to share with you the letter of my colleague Giacomo Montagna MD:
Dear all
I would like to start this short post by introducing myself. My name is Giacomo Montagna and I am Swiss breast surgeon. In 2011 I started my residency in Ob-Gyn in Lugano, Ticino, where I had the chance to meet and work with Prof. Olivia Pagani. My interest in the care of breast cancer (BC) patients and oncoplastic surgery began very quickly. In 2016, in order to improve my surgical skills, I moved to the University Hospital of Basel, where I am currently working under the supervision of Prof. Walter Weber. Later this year I will join the Breast Service of the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) in New York for a 1-year research fellowship.Giacomo Montagna Naples Late Spring Interactive Course 2019 GRETA ONCOPLASTIC MILANO NAPOLI CATANIA
My interest in the multidisciplinary treatment of BC, motivated me in taking part in the second cohort of the Certificate of Competence in Breast Cancer (CCB2), a Certificate in Advanced Studies organized by the European School of Oncology and the University of Ulm (Germany). I met Nicola exactly two years ago, during the first CCB2 seminar, in Vienna. We were both eager to learn more about this multifaceted disease, and had many ideas that we wanted to develop. Soon it became clear that this was the beginning of a long-term friendship and of a very productive collaboration.
Giuseppe and I met for the first time in March 2018 in Basel at the Oncoplastic Breast Consortium (OPBC) Consensus Conference on Nipple Sparing Mastectomy. At the time G.Re.T.A was launching its first course, the Etna Late Spring interactive course, in Giarre Sicily, I could not miss this opportunity and joined their brilliant initiative.
Rarely I have attended such an interactive and fruitful meeting. Along with an extraordinary review of the current literature on the de-escalation of breast and axillary surgery, I had the opportunity to meet many international experts in the field and many colleagues from all over Europe.
Oncology is a fast evolving, fascinating discipline and surgeons sometime struggle to stay update with all that’s happening in the field, I am thrilled to join the Naples late spring interactive course…see you in Naples.

"There have been many disasters in this world, but few have given so much delight to posterity". This was what Johann Wolfgang Goethe, who came to visit the ruins during the spring of 1787, wrote about the catastrophic eruption in 79 AD that buried the Roman cities around the volcano Vesuvius. Throughout the centuries, Pompeii has continued to surprise its many visitors. After years of probably insufficient structural work carried out on the site, on January 20th of 2012 the Great Pompeii

In pursuing our goal, our scientific director, Nicola Rocco, together with our Honorary Chairman, Maurizio Nava, has been proud to be part of the outstanding faculty of the Buenos Aires Breast Meeting 2018, organized by Alberto Rancati, Eduardo Gonzalez and Claudio Angrigiani. Obtaining high level evidences in surgery is difficult due to the challenges in conducting surgical randomized controlled trials and to surgeons’ general reluctance to embrace trial methodology. This is why we often base our decision-making on personal preferences, without having

A long and productive scientific cooperation and a strong friendship tie together our Honorary President Maurizio Nava with Alberto Rancati. Several valuable scientific achievements have been reached in the field of aesthetic and reconstructive breast surgery thanks to this long lasting work side by side. Their cooperation recently led to the publication of a new classification of breast morphology at digital mammography, that has been proposed as a useful driver for planning the best reconstructive option following nipple-sparing mastectomy for breast
